Cover image: HIV matures on the surface of a CD4+ T cell. Depletion of specific memory B cell pools occurs during the early stages of HIV infection and cannot be reestablished by antiretroviral treatment in children after the first year of life, limiting the protective Traces of vaccination against common childhood diseases. Treating HIV-positive infants with highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) during their first year of life prevents the depletion of memory B cells and allows an adequate response to vaccination.
